"Deep ruby. Fresh blackberry and cassis aromas are complicated by cracked pepper, dried flowers and herbs. Suave, tightly focused dark berry flavors are underscored by smoky mineral and floral qualities. Seems to grow riper with aeration, finishing with notes of tarragon and black pepper. Give this some decanter time. 88 points." Ravenswood Belloni Vineyard Zinfandel 2004, Russian River Valley 6 x 75cl Bottle
"Bright ruby-red. Sexy oak spices, black cherry and roast coffee on the nose. Fat, lush, velvety and sweet, with powerful red fruit flavors and an impression of strong extract. Finishes with substantial broad, dusty tannins and excellent length. Captivating zinfandel, with impressive sweetness. 90 points." Ridge Montebello Chardonnay 2007
Taken from selected parcels of vines within several acres of Ridge's 'Middle Vineyard', whose first Chardonnay vines were planted in 1949. With the most recent plantings dating from around 25 years ago. Low yields of berries from these mature vines are whole-buinch pressed and juice transferred to new and old American and French oak for fermentation and a total of 16 months' ageing, giving intense flavours of pear, apple and fig with a deep, rich and oily texture.
Hamacher Pinot Noir 2008, Willamette Valley
"The 2008 Pinot Noir Willamette Valley was fermented with native yeasts and spent 18 months in 30% new oak. Medium crimson-colored, it exhibits a brooding bouquet of smoke, Asian spices, incense, rose petal, black cherry, and black raspberry. This leads to a satin-textured vibrant, savory Pinot with incipient complexity, succulent black fruit flavors, excellent volume, and a lengthy, seamless finish. Give it 3-4 years to realize its full potential and drink it through 2023, perhaps longer". 92 points. Jay Miller, The Wine Advocate.
Capezzana Carmignano 'Villa di Capezzana' 2006
The Capezzana estate is located 24km north-west of Florence, and is owned by the Contini Bonacossi family, and is very much a family affair, with vineyard management, production and wine sales headed up by members of the family. Restrained and elegant on the nose, with a cooler, more delicate frame than many Tuscans. Signature cherry and liquorice notes accompany plum and concentrated cassis flavours on the palate. At its best with simple red meat dishes with well-defined flavours. Try with pan fried duck breast or lamb cutlets.
Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay 2007, Buisson-Battault
André Buisson's wines are in great demand and this delicious, Bourgogne Blanc is no exception. A medium priced white burgundy with an elegant, steely yet creamy character. Enjoy with grilled dover sole or halibut.
Meursault 'Le Limousin' 2007, Buisson-Battault
Chardonnay flourishes in the poor, rocky soil of Meursault. From one of Burgundy's best producers, André Buisson, this is a deliciously dry and rich wine full of succulent, buttery hazelnut flavours.
Chablis Grand Cru 'Les Clos' 2007, Pinson
Pinson makes some of the best wine in the “Les Clos” vineyard, perhaps the greatest grand cru vineyard in Chablis. This is quintessential Chablis with stone fruit flavours, a well-focused mineral complexity and well-honed acidity. This wine will drink well after 2-3 years bottle age and will last 10+ years.
Mount Pleasant 'Elizabeth' Semillon 2005, McWilliams, Hunter Valley
One of the founders of winemaking in Hunter Valley, McWilliams are integral to the region and a specialist in the local unoaked Semillon. Winemaker Phil Ryan has made this wine since 1978, and is only the third McWilliams estate winemaker since its founding in 1921. Sherbety lemon, lime, passionfruit and hints of straw on the nose. Citrus-led on the palate too, with the classic honeysuckle note and waxy texture, adding roundness and body. Enjoy in its citrussy youth, or cellar for a couple of years to allow mellow, honeyed notes to develop.
Château d'Armailhac 1996, Pauillac, 5ème Cru Classé
"This is a successful and seductive wine. The saturated ruby color is followed by sweet, roasted herb, and black currant aromas with lush toasty oak notes. A blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 25% Cabernet Franc, this medium-weight, elegant yet richly fruity wine possesses enough tannin to last two decades, but it will be one 1996 Medoc that will be drinkable at an early age. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2018." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
